When visiting the UAE, most people will pick Dubai as their destination. The city has made headlines all over the world and it truly is a city that will make you go in awe of all the amazing skyscrapers. However, only an hour and a half away is Abu Dhabi, which everyone should consider visiting.
I don’t know why it’s not as popular as a destination as much as Dubai but it definitely is more than a 24 hr stopover. Being in UAE for 10 days, I sadly could only take out as little as 2 days in total to see everything and commute from Dubai. So, I highly suggest spending full 2-3 days here if not more to see what truly Abu Dhabi has to offer.
Abu Dhabi has so many attractions to impress all visitors, with everything from cultural experiences to amazing shopping malls, it is a perfect city for every kind of traveler.
How to reach Abu Dhabi from Dubai
If you are coming to Abu Dhabi from Dubai which is most probably the case then there are 2 options: By Bus or a taxi.
The bus from Dubai to Abu Dhabi departs from Al Ghubaiba bus station in Dubai and arrives at Abu Dhabi Central bus station. The journey by bus will take around 2.5 hrs and will cost you 25 AED. I took a bus and can tell you that it was a comfortable AC bus with charging available. Also, I think there is no service for the night buses available.
If you take a taxi, you will reach sooner and it will you more.
Places to visit in Abu Dhabi
There are a few places in Abu Dhabi that are best for photography and those Insta worthy shots while the others are a great place to see and experience. I am listing all the places here that I think should be on your list to have a complete experience of things to see and do in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Zayed Mosque
Oh, imagine a land, it’s a faraway place….. Okay, I guess you got it, right? So welcome to Arabian nights 😍
This is absolutely a no brainer to see this spot as number 1 spot on the list of most Instagrammable places. Undoubtedly the most beautiful Mosque in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, also known as the Grand Mosque is mesmerizing and breathtaking in every sense. It is a sight to behold and most visited place in Abu Dhabi for all the reasons.
The mosque is the largest in the country and is huge so it’s visible from a distance. The architecture is beautiful and so well thought. It is made of pure marble and decorated with golden details and colorful stones on the floor. It’s white so it reflects a lot in sunlight. It is open to all the people of every religion except during prayer times. I would advise checking their website for prayer times, which change daily.
Also, there are certain restrictions and rules that you should know before visiting this beauty so that you are not yelled at by the guards. I have a blog post dedicated to all the tips that you may need to visit this marvelous piece of architecture.

Happy news: Admission is free ☺️
Wahat Al Karama
Never heard of this place? Don’t worry, I am pretty sure you must have seen tons of photos from here. Whenever I saw a picture on Instagram from this place, I used to wonder why nobody shares the exact location of this spot. While doing my extensive research, I gladly stumbled upon this place called Wahat Al Karama which is a war memorial and monument in front of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The memorial is composed of three structures: the leaning pillars, the pavilion of honor, and the memorial plaza. It’s not a very famous place to see so you won’t find this place listed in many guides while reading about Abu Dhabi. I was going through the satellite view and some google images when I realized this is the exact place from where those beautiful Insta worthy shots are taken. However, I was so much in a rush that I couldn’t visit this place myself.
SUVARNA’S TIP: Come 1 hr before sunset to see the memorial and grab your spot for the famous Insta shot. This place looks mind-blowing, especially at sunset and night.
Qasr Al Watan
I think when it comes to architecture and making a place as grand as palaces, no one does it better than UAE. The newest addition to Abu Dhabi’s unique and incredible landmark is Qasr Al Watan and it’s no different than a jaw-dropping place. It is housed within the presidential palace compound and aims to provide visitors with a stronger understanding of the UAE’s governing traditions and values.
As you enter the complex, the grandeur of the palace’s soaring domes, white granite, and limestone facade and manicured gardens will dazzle you. There are several zones inside, the great hall being the most mind-blowing and beautiful. You will be in complete awe of this place.
The ticket pricing and entry timings may change so it’s best to have a look at their website first and find all the information before visiting.
Louvre Museum
I am sure you all have heard of the Louvre Museum of Paris but how many of us know that there is one in Abu Dhabi as well?
In Nov 2017, Abu Dhabi opened its doors to the first universal museum in the Arab world. The Louvre Museum is a place for all history lovers. I am not a big fan of museums but Louvre is definitely a place that I wanted to see and of course, the Paris one is still on my list.
With the beautiful architecture, the structure of the Louvre itself is a masterpiece. This museum holds several art pieces from all over the world and is a must-visit attraction. The security is as high as at airports which shows how much they care about the artifacts.
You can buy your tickets online or purchase them there. I purchased my tickets on the spot and had no issues or long lines for it but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Emirates Palace
Prepared to be amazed once again by one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. Emirates Palace does not look like a hotel, it looks like a palace. You must have seen this hotel in many movies so it definitely should be on your list if you are visiting Abu Dhabi.
Though it can be visited at any time of the day but talking from my personal experience, it depends upon the guard if he can let you enter early in the morning or even at around 8 am. They generally open the gate to visitors at 9 am.
The admission to this hotel is free but you will only be allowed to access the lobbies and exhibitions, every other area is reserved for the hotel guests. It costs a whopping 3 million dollars to construct this hotel and you will be dazzled by all things golden inside.
And just to give you an idea of luxury and how rich it is, you can even enjoy a golden cappuccino with real gold flakes. Super crazy, right?
Heritage Village
For those looking to understand the Arab culture and traditions better, Heritage Village is a reconstructed village that gives you a better idea. It shows you the Bedouin lifestyle and heritage in a very cultural way.
You can shop, explore artifacts and watch artisans making pottery and weaving fabric on a loom. The entrance is free and I highly recommend visiting during morning as soon as it opens as it is an open museum and it can get hot soon.
Visiting Hours:
Sat. to Thur: 9 am to 4 pm
Fri: 3.30pm to 9pm
Ferrari World
Looking for a thrilling experience in Abu Dhabi then Ferrari World is your place. This theme park gets its name by the world-famous Italian car brand and is inspired by it as well. This park is famous for its fastest rollercoaster in the world, Formula Rossa, which reaches a speed of 240 km/hr in only 5 sec. You can buy your tickets from here.
Zaya Nurai Island
If you are bored with city life and want a getaway away from the hustle-bustle then Zaya Nuria Island is the perfect place to relax. This island is just a short boat ride away. Visitors can purchase a day pass or choose to stay the night in its own luxury resort. The resort has more than one beach and several amenities.
Yas Waterworld
Everyone is aware that UAE can be quite hot during summers. To beat that scorching heat, you can feel refreshed in Yas Waterworld. With exciting rides for all ages, it’s a perfect place for the entire family to spend warmer days.
Until the next post.
CYA!! XOXO!!

Thanks for writing about Abu Dhabi, it’s been on my bucket list for ages. Your post has me excited to get there one day!
I’ve been to UAE, but spent most of my time in Dubai. I only went to Abu Dhabi for an afternoon to visit Sheikh Zayed Mosque (which is INCREDIBLE). You’ve really inspired me to come back and spend more time in Abu Dhabi though, it looks like its worth spending waaaay more than just one afternoon there!
Such a gorgeous part of the Middle East. When I go back to Lebanon I’m determined to visit the UAE, both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
I always find myself spending time in Dubai and never go to Abu Dhabi. It just never occurred to me that there was so much to do. The view from Wahat Al Karama is stunning. I can see why you spent time hunting it down so thanks for sharing it. The next time I am in Dubai I have bookmarked this post to use and will definitely include a visit to Abu Dhabi in my plans.
omg okay this is so stupid but I’d always thought Dubai was a country on its own until I read your post! 😱 Definitely need to be looking into UAE more because the photos you posted ARE SO AMAZING!
Your pictures are so gorgeous, they remind me of all the Arabian night tales haha. I cannot wait to go to Abu Dhabi and see all of this for myelf.
Abi Dhabi is gorgeous, particularly the Emirates Palace Hotel and the Grand Mosque. Both are absolutely stunning. Did not go to the Louvre or Ferrari World, but I would love to go back and do those next time.
I have a friend living here and their stories and photos are always amazing! Yours are no different!!
Would anyone know how it is in Dubai during Ramadan, I’m planning to have a honeymoon in Dubai and the only dates that work are during Ramadan, would anyone be able to tell me how it is and would you recommend to visit around that time?
